Mystery Shoppers Already Exist. The Operating System Doesn't.

For a faith funder, denominational ops lead, or church-tech founder, the live Guest Path brief already named the campus fracture, and the paid mystery-shop market already proves churches will buy a visit.

Who This Is For

Faith funders, denominational / network ops, and church-tech founders who want a category to capitalize. Multi-campus executives tired of 100-page PDFs and one-and-done visits. Skip if the ask is “hire a secret shopper this Sunday” — that market is already served. Skip if the ask is DIY greeter tips — that brief is already live.

The Startup Insight

E-commerce did not invent secret shopping. It productized it. IdeaBrowser’s simulated shopper and Tom Orbach’s growth catalog both point at software that walks a path blind, returns a breakage report, and sells the repeat pass as maintenance. Church mystery shopping, by contrast, is still mostly a consultant visit and a thick PDF — Worship Impressions, Faith Perceptions, Secret Worshipper, and others already sell the human audit. The category is real. The gap is the operating system: a thin, ranked score; an AI web pass between Sundays; optional human dispatch when the score warrants it; and a fix backlog that does not require a 125-page binder. Unsolicited value (the Vanta move) and free mini-tools sit on top of that OS as wedges. The company is not “another Greg Atkinson.” It is the layer that makes first-visit quality measurable, recurring, and fundable.

The Ministry Translation

For a faith funder, denominational ops lead, or church-tech founder, the live Guest Path brief already named the campus fracture, and the paid mystery-shop market already proves churches will buy a visit.

What they cannot buy cleanly is a First-Visit OS: one instrument that scores web → lot → door → greeting → kids → seat → follow-up on a single page, runs an AI walkthrough of the public site and parking instructions every month, and dispatches a human (or unchurched) mystery guest only when the score slips or a campus launches.

Imagine a network of forty churches sharing the same scorecard. Each campus sees five ranked fixes with owners. The network sees anonymized benchmarks. A foundation underwrites the OS the way it underwrites shared data infrastructure — not another one-off consulting weekend. The Kingdom gain is category creation on top of a service that already exists: fewer seeking families lost to friction nobody measured twice.

Why this made the brief. Honest about incumbents, then names the missing product — software + thin score + optional human — that foundations can fund and networks can run. Distinct from the live DIY Guest Path brief (campus checklist); this is the company/OS layer.

What To Do With This

This week

Spec the one-page scorecard (seven stages, 1–5 each, five ranked fixes max). List three incumbents you will not compete with on celebrity consulting (Worship Impressions, Faith Perceptions, Secret Worshipper) and name the wedge: AI web pass + thin score + optional dispatch.

This month

Build the free mini-tool (public web + parking + kids FAQ path) with no signup. Run it on twenty church sites. Offer five campuses a paid pilot: monthly AI pass + one human visit + shared backlog in a simple workspace.

This quarter

Incorporate or fiscal-sponsor. Price network seats, not hero weekends. Publish an anonymized pilot “State of the First Visit” slice so funders have a category name. Partner with existing mystery-shop operators for human dispatch rather than displacing them.
